Meet the owner of Lallygag Boutique, one of the merchants you’ll find at  Wine, Women & Purses, October 1.

Who are you? Where are you from? How long have you lived in the area?

Kim Knutson, owner of Lallygag Boutique, 4616 E State St, Rockford, IL. I grew up in Minnesota then moved to Madison, WI, where I lived for 30 years before moving to Rockford. Five years ago, I met the love of my life through an online dating site. Just one problem, he lived in Rockford and I in Madison. After 3 years of racing down I-90 every weekend to be together,  he (and Rockford) finally won me over. We married in 2013 and I moved to Rockford.

Describe your business.

Lallygag is a fun little boutique in the Miracle Mile district of Rockford, IL, nestled between a shabby chic home decor shop and a flower shop. We are best known for hand-picked, adorable weekend wear at Lallygag Boutiqueaffordable prices. And, awesome customer service!

What inspired you to open your business?

After over 25 years of working in the corporate world, I decided to follow my passion. I had dreamed of the day I would open my own boutique and share my passion for mixing style with comfort. Throughout my career, the opportunity to travel allowed me to shop all over the United States and the world.  I found hours of enjoyment in the small boutiques which provided individual service, unique product lines and an eclectic sense of style not available in chain stores.  When I relocated to Rockford following my marriage, I decided to try to make my dream come true for myself and, hopefully, to bring some of that experience to Rockford.

What is your favorite thing about what you do?

Creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for customers is my number one joy.

When you’re not running your business, what are you doing in your “spare” time?

I love weekend getaways that involve shopping and dining at unique independent retailers.

How many years have you participated in Wine, Women & Purses and what do you like best about this event?

This will be my first year participating.  I am excited to connect and partner with other local businesses who share the same philosophies of helping and empowering women.

What item, trend, or product are you most excited about this Fall?

Luxe Metallics – add a sophisticated shimmer to your Fall wardrobe with a sparkle of metallic.
