International Self-Care Day

Hello YOU.  Yes, YOU!  How are YOU? No, really, how are YOU doing? How are YOU feeling? Take a moment and really ask yourself that question. It feels sort of strange I know because we don’t always get to do that.  Well, today is a brand-new day and the time is now to make time to celebrate and take care of YOU!  Just in time for INTERNATIONAL SELF-CARE DAY! So, carve out some time and plan a whole day of self-focus, self- meditation and self-care.

International Self-Care Day is celebrated on July 24th of each year.  It is a crucial cornerstone of health and was established by the International Self-Care Foundation in 2011 to help raise awareness of the importance of it.  It emphasizes the advantages of self-care that can be felt at any time of day, seven days a week, no matter the season.  The benefits can last a lifetime and are not limited to just one day.  The self-care concept has been around for a while, but recently started getting a lot of attention because of it’s focus on overall wellness.  How will you take care of yourself in 2025?  On International Self-Care Day, be encouraged to take time to focus on your own well-being and engage in self-care activities…And don’t feel guilty about it! YOU come first.

Here are a few fun activities for all ages;

  • Journal about your feelings.
  • Meditate for 10 minutes.
  • Move your body in some way, such as running, walking or dancing for no reason.
  • Spend time outside.
  • Take a mental health day.
  • Buy yourself a gift.
  • Look up at the sky.
  • Hug a tree. Grow a tree.
  • Practice deep breathing.

You might wonder what a self-care day consist of, it’s anything that YOU feel is important to YOU and sparks your interest.  Some of these activities can include anything from exercising, moments of prayer, healthy eating habits, mindfulness, being kind to others, daily practices of consideration, and other activities that promote physical, mental and emotional health.

Some recreational self-care can might include hobbies, nature walks, going on adventures, playing board games, switching up your daily routine or simply just taking time to rest and relax right where YOU are.  There are thousands of other ways YOU can take care of YOU by nurturing those important and valuable parts that make YOU who YOU are. Read a book as often as you can.  Take that trip you’ve always wanted to take.  If YOU find it interesting then it’s worth celebrating.

Some social self-care can be connecting with others, join a group or a book club, volunteer your time, communicate (without using social media).

Just remember to move your body every day, nourish, sleep, hydrate, meditate, seek help if YOU need it and always remember to unplug when you feel you have to.  And Have A

Happy International Self-Care Day!
