YWCA Literacy Council

The YWCA Literary Council provides free classes through group and individualized tutoring programs to adults seeking to enhance the quality of their lives by improving their English language comprehension, reading, writing, and English as a second language (ESL) skills.

The organization has been advocating for literary awareness and services in the Rockford region since 1985. In 2022, the Literacy Council was acquired by YWCA Northwestern Illinois. As a united organization, it is able to provide greater access to vital services for the people of our community.

We Serve:
  • Adults age 17+ not enrolled in school wanting to enhance their reading, writing, technology, and conversing skills
  • Individuals whose first language in not English
  • Native English speakers wishing to increase their reading and writing skills

Mission Statement

The YWCA Literacy Council exists to provide literacy instruction to individuals and families to strengthen communities.
