What is the PAIP?

PAIP stands for Partner Abuse Intervention Program. In class, we talk about PAIP as a safe space to learn about what a healthy intimate relationship really looks like; a relationship built on respect, equality, and zero violence.

When We Talk About Sexual Abuse

Many people think sexual abuse only means rape. In the PAIP, we look at the bigger picture and help students identify other elements of  sexual abuse, which can include:

  • Demanding sex
  • Pressuring someone to send pictures
  • Comparing a partner’s body to others
  • Saying things like, “If you loved me, you’d have sex with me.”
  • Checking a partner’s body or clothes when they come home

When sex is used to control, pressure, or manipulate someone, it becomes emotional and psychological abuse.

Let’s Talk About Real Intimacy

This is another moment in the PAIP where we pause and reflect deeper on what intimacy is. . When people hear the word intimacy, they often think it only means sex. But real intimacy looks like:

  • Having safe conversations without fear of being judged
  • Respecting your partner’s needs, desires, and boundaries
  • Being faithful
  • Showing affection without expecting sex
  • Expressing love in ways beyond physical contact

Intimacy is about connection, not control.

What PAIP Helps People See

As we work through the program, many individuals begin to notice things they didn’t see before such as

  • Toxic behaviors that felt “normal”
  • Unhealthy relationship patterns
  • In some cases, realizing they may also be experiencing abuse

Awareness is a powerful part of change.

Who PAIP Is For

  • Individuals who have been court-ordered to complete the program
  • Couples and individuals who want to participate

The PAIP is free for those who are interested and requires a 26-week commitment. Honesty is key not for the staff or the group, but for yourself

If you want a better life for yourself and those around you, the change has to start with you.

What We See at the End

People who complete PAIP experience a deep change within themselves after completing the course. They leave with:

  • Knowledge
  • Tools
  • Accountability
  • A clearer understanding of healthy relationships
  • The power to eliminate violence in their lives

PAIP is about learning, growth, and choosing a life free from abuse, one conversation at a time.
