What Does Back-to-School
Season Mean to You?
When people think of back-to-school season, they often picture children picking out backpacks, buying school supplies, and meeting new teachers. But learning isn’t just for kids. Adults can make this season a fresh start, too, and enrolling in an English as a Second Language (ESL) class could be one of the best decisions you make this year.
Whether your goal is to improve your English for work, communicate more confidently with your children’s teachers, or simply feel more comfortable in everyday conversations, ESL classes provide the skills and support to help you succeed.
Learning English can open doors in many areas of life, including:
- Better job opportunities and career advancement
- Greater confidence speaking with coworkers, neighbors, and community members
- Easier communication with your children’s schools and teachers
- Improved access to healthcare, community services, and everyday resources
- Preparation for college, vocational training, or citizenship goals
- New friendships and connections with fellow learners
Here’s what a recent YWCA student had to say about his experience in ESL classes:
“English classes helped me get a better job and enabled me to hold conversations with clients and supervisors. Classes also helped me avoid relying on a translator during medical or dental appointments. Now I can communicate without fear and with greater confidence. I can help myself and others.”
If you or someone you know would like to learn English in a supportive environment, YWCA wants to help! Use this link to join the waiting list for classes. Individuals on the waiting list will be contacted to attend a registration session for classes beginning in September. Both morning and evening classes will be offered.
Classes funded in part by the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois.
